Profile of Toronto Family Lawyer Stan Potter
I have been a family lawyer practicing in Toronto for 40 years. I graduated from York
University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1973
with a Bachelor of Law Degree.
I was called to the Ontario Bar in 1975 as a Barrister and Solicitor.
After a short association with Walter Hryciuk who became a Judge of the Ontario Court
of Justice in 1978, I commenced my own practice.
Originally I carried on a General practice which included Family Law for several years.
This gave me a strong background that I have been able to use in my Family Law practice
when dealing with matters such as, Real Estate, Corporate Law, Criminal Law Domestic
Assaults, Wills and Estates. My practice has been dedicated to Family and Divorce Law ever
since.
The issues that I deal with include:
- Annulments
- Divorce
- Separation Agreements
- Marriage Contracts
- Co-Habitation Agreements
- Variation of all Domestic Contracts and Agreements
- Variation of Court Orders
- Collaborative Law
- Equalization of Family Assets
- Restraining Orders
- Child and Spousal Support and variation
- Custody of Children
- Parental Alienation
- Child Access issues for parents and grandparents
- Child Welfare Law including Children's Aid, Catholic Children Aid and Jewish Family
Services
- Spousal Assaults
- Second Opinions.
Litigation is commenced when negotiations breakdown, either due to the complexity of
the issues or the failure of a party to negotiate in good faith. My 35 years of experience
allows me to make the proper decision when to negotiate and when to litigate.
My years of experience help in the negotiation of settlements even after the litigation
process has commenced.
I have always been concerned with the welfare and well being of my community. I was
associated with Public Schools in North York in putting together programs for children
with special needs, including the program at Faywood Public School in North York.
I was an original member of "Reach For The Rainbow", a group dedicated to the
reintegration of children with all types of handicaps back into the community. I was
Chairman of the Board of Directors for several years.
I have appeared in interviews on CBC Television and have been a contributor to Divorce
Magazine.
I have represented clients throughout Ontario and Canada including, Alberta, British
Columbia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and in the United States.
My knowledge, understanding and passion can be an asset to you and a source of strength
in times of marital breakdowns.
